Welcome to the Transplant Infectious Disease Section

Dear Colleagues, I would like to extend a warm invitation from the Transplant Infectious Diseases section to attend the TID pre-meeting symposium, on Sunday, July 1st, during the TTS International Congress, to be held in the elegant and dynamic Madrid from June 30 to July 5, 2018. The full day meeting will include lectures, pro&con sessions, and discussion of challenging clinical cases by 18 physician experts from various continents, covering the following topics: donor-derived infection and organ vigilance around the world, controversies in transplant infectious diseases, threatening infections post-transplant, top papers in TID, among others. The conference is aimed primarily at transplant clinicians with the expertise in infections and is intended to promote research and education in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of the infectious disease problems of the transplant recipient. Our annual TID meeting always provides an excellent opportunity for colleagues to meet and for strangers to become friends. I look forward to a wonderful symposium and seeing you in Madrid! Dear Colleagues,

The Transplant Infectious Disease Section of TTS is the global home for the clinicians and scientists focused on preventing and treating infectious complications or transplantation. The Section was established in 1999 and for the past 20 years has grown in terms of membership and offerings. Historically, the Section has organized nearly annual meetings focused on TID and has established “the” Transplant Infectious Disease Journal. Our current leadership represents the global footprint of our Section and our specialty (experts representing Brazil, Spain, Singapore and the United States).

Over the next 2 years as President, I hope to engage a larger group of experts in the society so that new members are featured in leadership roles as speakers at upcoming meetings and as active contributors to the Section. We will be working to strengthen the ties between the Section and our official Journal, Transplant Infectious Disease, in addition to building a range of speaking opportunities for our members at TID co-branded sessions at regional meetings and stand-alone meetings. We have 3 exciting meetings that our Section is actively participating in: the ISHAM-Asia meeting, to be held in Bangkok, Thailand, where we will have a session on Friday May 8 focused on fungal infections in SOT (www.ishamasia.com/program-at-a-glance), the 21st ICHS Symposium, to be held in Melbourne, Australia on June 7-9, where we will have a co-badged session on challenging viral infections in SOT (www.ichs2020.com/preliminary-program), and TID sessions and pre-meeting Course at the 28th International Congress of The Transplantation Society in Seoul, Korea (September 12-16; www.tts2020.org/program/program-wag).

One of the key objectives of my presidency is to have a Global Summit on Transplant Infectious Diseases where we can summarize what we know about TID, identify and prioritize areas where research is needed, and consider what the future of the field will look like.

Lastly, we will be coming up with exciting ways to engage and include our members. If you have ideas, please share them with me (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) so we can work together it transforming the ideas into action!
